The Algebra of Life: A Curriculum for Modern Survival

Modern life has become a game of incomplete information where the variables are deliberately obscured. Very few humans source their nourishment directly from nature. Instead, we must use our Time to secure Money, with which we can buy Food.

But how well do we even understand these topics? Our consciousness is a mystery, our systems of Money are great puzzles, and our Food supply is dominated by large corporations whose products are chemically engineered for commercial reasons.

This publication is not about shallow lifestyle hacks or quick fixes. Rather, the aim is to slowly rebuild your foundation of knowledge from the ground up (Chapters 1–6), so that you may reach ever-new heights through application in Chapter 7 and beyond.

🏛️ Roadmap: Why the Build Up Matters

You cannot navigate a complex system without becoming familiar with the parts themselves, as well as how they interact and operate within the system. Principles are applied more effectively and sustainably when they are well understood. To do this, we move through foundational topics in careful sequence:

  1. The Diagnostic Blueprint: The publication begins by isolating the core variables of human life (Chapters 1–3) and analyzing the implications of their two-way interactions (Chapters 4–6). These sections provide a deep historical overview of the cultural inflection points, legal shifts, and new technologies that spawned our modern environment. Core themes include how our Time was institutionalized, how our Food was industrialized, and how our Money was debased.

  1. Strategic Application (Chapter 7 & beyond): This section is the payoff. After introducing the variables of modern human life and decoding their interactions, the curriculum will shift to helping you apply these principles in your own life — from wherever you are starting to wherever you are going.

The Algebra of Life was designed to heighten your awareness of ancient patterns for the purpose of solving modern problems. Understanding how these concepts relate to each other is the key to reclaiming your life from a chaotic world.

🌍 Genesis of the Framework

I’ve always been interested in Money. The Algebra of Life was born out of the simple idea that Money is how humans “intermediate” between Time and Food.

This epiphany came to me two weeks after finishing law school, two years after going down the Bitcoin rabbit hole, and seven years after completing my undergraduate studies in finance and economics. But despite everything I read and learned about Money during these formative years, I had never encountered any better way to express the meaning of Money to living, breathing humans.

Of course, Money serves as a medium of exchange, a unit of account, and a store of value — but such a universal characterization makes no room for any difference between living and non-living transacting entities.

The meaning of Money to corporations and governments relates to profit and control respectively. Humans may use Money for these purposes, but there is also a deeper, biophysical relationship at play: we use our Time to acquire Money, and our Money to acquire Food. These are the core “trading pairs” of modern human life.

My rural upbringing, educational background, and experience living and working in different parts of the world have led to a troubling conviction: in the halls of elite institutions, the meaning of Money has been severely dehumanized.

Seven years of working in crypto has revealed an unmistakable gap between Bitcoin educators and the public. Much groundbreaking work has been done to explain how Bitcoin relates to the concept of Money — this was formerly my obsession.

But the word “Bitcoin” still loses most people because its relevance to their lives remains too abstract. This gap is bridged by the concept of Money, but to cross the bridge requires a deep understanding of how Money relates to human life.

The Algebra of Life was written for this purpose: to better prepare the public for Bitcoin. But it will also serve to prepare humans for life — from wherever you are starting to wherever you are going.
